Barbara Jean Hibbs of Havertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, at the age of 86. Barbara was born in New London, New Hampshire, to John F. Rivers and Elinor C. Rivers (Hall) on July 18, 1937. She graduated from Colby Junior College (now Colby-Sawyer) in 1957.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved nature, particularly walking in the woods or on the beach, collecting shells, pinecones, and four-leaf clovers. She knew the name of every flower and loved to garden. Barbara was also a talented seamstress, sewing many clothes for her family over the years.
After her children had grown, Barbara returned to the workforce where she spent 21 years as a secretary for Pierce Phelps, where she also organized their annual fishing trip. Barbara spent her retirement years baking donuts and cookies for her grandchildren and supporting them in their athletic and artistic endeavors.
Barbara is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Stephen, her three daughters, Kathleen Toal (William), Linda Hibbs, and Susan De Falcis (Daniel), seven grandchildren, Anne (Graham), Nicholas, Kevin, Alexander, Sarah, Eric, and Michael, two great-grandchildren, and her sister, Beverly Engelhart (Carl).
Memorial services will be held at Ardmore Presbyterian Church, on Saturday, May 18, at 2 PM. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Ardmore Presbyterian Church, 5 W Montgomery Avenue, and/or the American Diabetes Association, diabetes.org/
