The Andover libraries have a full slate of activities for everyone this summer. Here’s a preview:
Sign Language Class
The Andover Town Libraries are pleased to announce that they will again be offering American Sign Language classes for young children this summer. There will be two sessions available. Both sessions will occur on Tuesday nights from 6 to 7 PM at the Bachelder Library in East Andover.
The session will begin July 9 and will end August 13. In these classes, children will learn signs associated with food, toys, transportation, professions, actions, and everyday objects, taught through a variety of games and activities.
Please feel free to drop in for one class, or to join us for the entire session!
A donation of $10 per student for the session or $2 per class is suggested to help purchase materials. To sign up, please e-mail trefethenmi@nullproctornet.com, come in to either Library, or call us at 735-5333.
Got Seeds?
Each Andover Library now boasts its own Seed Library, open to all town residents! Come in soon – vegetable, herb, and flower seeds are now available for spring planting! We ask that you restrict your seed packets to three per household, as we have a limited inventory in our inaugural year. In return for taking seeds, the Libraries ask that you dry some seeds from your plants or flowers and share them with us in the fall so we can “grow” our Seed Libraries every year!
Free Concert After July 3 Book Sale
The 3rd annual Pre-Fourth of July Book Sale for Andover Residents at the Stone Chapel at Proctor will take place on Wednesday, July 3. The sale will be open from 4 to 7 PM, with all books, videos, and other items available for a donation. Right after the sale ends, a special performance by New Hampshire’s own Don Watson, singer/songwriter and storyteller, will entertain the crowd until 8 PM.
Don is from Gilford, New Hampshire, and his music has been compared to John Denver, Jim Croce, and Dan Fogelberg. His songs are upbeat, inspiring, and easy on the ears. Don’s newest project, “Welcome Home, New Hampshire,” is a collection of songs based on people, places, and events of the Granite State.
We hope you’ll join us for both the sale and the show!
Fairy Houses
On Saturday, June 8, Andover Public Library will host its 2nd Annual Fairy House Building Day from 9:30 until 10:30 AM. Start collecting lots of fun, natural materials to bring for your construction! Birch bark, pine cones, moss, stones, shells, feathers, and dried flowers are all great ideas. Rain date will be the following Saturday, June 15.
Summer Reading Program
This year, Andover Public Library will be trying something new for the Summer Reading Program (SRP). No signing up, just drop-in and join the crowd! We will have volunteers to read stories to kids of all ages, help kids choose books to bring home, and to lead activities and crafts each week. Each child will get a special gift every time they attend. The SRP will begin at 7 PM on Monday, July 8, and run every Monday night until Monday, August 12.
