WCA and Wilmot Conservation Commission co-sponsor a butterfly program.
Join butterfly enthusiast George DeWolf for an introduction and overview of butterflies of Merrimack County, at 1:30 PM, on July 28, at the Wilmot Community Association’s (WCA) Red Barn, 64 Village Road.
George’s presentation will focus on the butterfly species that are commonly found in Merrimack County. Following the presentation participants will have the opportunity to visit the WCA pollinator garden with George and observe living butterflies foraging on the plants and flowers that attract them. This free program is sponsored by the WCA and the Wilmot Conservation Commission.
Since moving to Wentworth, New Hampshire, in 2007, George has spent much of his time exploring the White Mountain National Forest and Quincy Bog Natural Area in Rumney, from a natural science perspective. George is interested in all aspects of nature, but he finds wild plants and butterflies particularly appealing: plants, because they don’t fly away and invite close inspection and butterflies, because they’re breathtakingly beautiful.
He has created the Quincy Bog in Bloom YouTube channel, which features his photographs of the Bog’s wildflowers. He is also the coordinator of the annual Baker Ponds Butterfly Count, which celebrates its 21st year in July.
The Wilmot Conservation Commission is committed to giving thoughtful attention to both short-term and long-term conservation goals as the Town grows and develops.
