KNP Korner – September 2024

News from Kearsarge Neighborhood Partners

Press Release

“Kearsarge Neighborhood Partners (KNP) is a non-profit dedicated to building a community where neighbors help each other flourish. We collaborate with over 40 community partners serving ten towns in the Kearsarge region, matching the needs of neighbors with committed volunteers who can help in short-term or longer-term situations.”

Sixteen hard-working KNP wood team members stacked four cords of firewood in less than an hour on a recent Saturday morning! Weather temperatures fall, and the KNP wood pile continues to rise as we prepare for another season of helping folks face heating challenges. The New Hampshire Fuel Assistance Program begins to help vulnerable Granite State families with heating bills on December 1, but because the weather gets cold in October and November, fall is usually a time of great demand for emergency heating wood. Please email us at info@nullKNPnh.org if you are interested in helping with upcoming wood deliveries!

KNP will share a table with our community partner, Sunset Hill Educational Institute, on Sunday, September 15, from 11 to 2 PM at the Kearsarge Food Hub & Friends 4th Annual Community Fair on the lawn of Sweet Beet Market in Bradford. People of all ages can enjoy interactive games and projects, as well as educational farm activities, goats, a fairyland, live music and a special menu in the cafe!

Catch us again on Sunday, October 6, from 10 to 2 PM at Muster Field Farm’s Harvest Day. Be sure to stop by and say hi as we embrace these crisp fall weekends while sharing the ways KNP can help neighbors in the Kearsarge region.

Contamination in a nearby well has halted the progress on Long Meadow Commons, which would supply 60 units of workforce housing behind the Hannaford shopping center in New London. A well at the Continuum assisted living and memory care development behind the New London Hospital showed high levels of PCE, a chemical widely used for dry cleaning. To prevent the possible spread of the contaminants throughout the subterranean water system, the New Hampshire Department of Environment Services requested that Twin Pines temporarily delay further testing of their successful well on the workforce housing site. Twin Pines submitted a second application to be served by the New London/Springfield Water Precinct, which the Precinct denied. Conversations continue with the Water Precinct.

Registration is open for you to sign up for a four-hour shift helping to create insulated custom storm window inserts during the Window Dressers Community Build from November 14 to November 20, at Saint Andrews Church in New London. KNP will partner with Kearsarge Climate Action to provide 250 low-cost window inserts, keeping area homes warmer, saving heating costs and lowering CO2 emissions.

Volunteer as a shift supervisor, window builder, greeter, food provider, or to supply transportation. All training is provided. Window Dressers is a terrific, well-organized effort, and we know you will enjoy being part of the community build process. Email us at info@nullKNPnh.org for the sign-up site.
