Louise Andrus’s View from Concord — November

By Louise Andrus

Veteran’s Day is November 11, but every day of the year should be Veteran’s Day. If it were not for all of those that have served and currently serve we would not be free. Thank you to each of you and your families for sacrificing you to be in the service to protect the United States of America.

On Thursday, October 10, we had a House session to vote on all the bills vetoed by the Governor. This was the last session until after the General Election. The next session will be held in December.

HB 1205, “fairness in women’s sports,” which I was the prime sponsor, and the law became effective August 18, has had a number of issues. There are lawsuits; two fathers supporting their daughters were kicked out of a soccer game because they were wearing pink wristbands with two X’s on the band; a school district has decided to defy the law.

HB 1205 was submitted to the Legislature to obtain “fairness and safety in women’s sports.”  Where is the equity when a biological female is forced to play in a sport with a biological male?  Knowing that the chances of winning is unlikely because the circumstances have not been dealt with fairly?

Why should a biological female play a sport and excel in that sport, but then a biological male plays in the sport and takes away her chances of winning? Not fair! There have been cases of severe injury to biological females from a biological male in a sport. Why is it fair for a biological female to have to play in a sport with a biological male and the chances of a severe injury are much greater than normal?

It is incomprehensible why a school district would choose to “defy” a law. It is my opinion that it is saying to the students, if you don’t like a law you do not have to obey the law.

The General Election is November 5. Go to the polls and vote.

It is a privilege to vote. Don’t throw away that privilege. Every vote counts and one vote can win a race.
