ANDOVER — In February’s issue of The Beacon, Representative Deborah Aylward listed her priorities for the upcoming legislative session. I have questions about some of them and hope that she will take the time to answer them in a future column.
In HB 148, how would protections be afforded to those with various conditions called differences of sex development (DSD), sometimes referred to as intersex? For background, some with DSDs do not fit neatly into the categories of male or female, and it is estimated that 1–2 percent of the population have one of the various DSD conditions. One example is Caster Semenya, an elite South African runner, who was born with internal testicles and some parts of the female reproductive system.
For what reasons are you supporting elimination of the Office of the Child Advocate and the Office of the Consumer Advocate?
Which taxes do you believe should be lowered in light of Governor Ayotte’s announcement of a revenue shortfall? What impacts might towns see as a result of the lowered taxes? In what ways might lowering taxes conflict with your other stated priorities, such as, expanding the education freedom account program, lowering property taxes, improving infrastructure, subsidizing housing development, and providing tools to establish and enforce tax caps?
