ANDOVER — This winter has been “the real thing” for sure, with very cold days and snow events lining up every three to four days. Is this global warming? It sure doesn’t feel like it!
Still, we are thanking God the fires are out in California (but now there are threats of mudslides). ACC is still collecting to help people who have lost everything in the aftermath of the fires in LA and the hurricanes in North Carolina. Franklin Graham of Samaritan’s Purse says they will be there helping rebuild for a very long time.
Let’s not forget the record low temps and snowstorms in the south! It’s comforting to know that God is still in charge, and the sun still rises and sets every day, as it has since the very first day.
When this paper goes to press, we will have already enjoyed The Cinnamon Jazz Quartet at the Andover Community Coffeehouse, held February 21. Nothing less than a packed house is expected, barring any snowstorms lurking in the forecast! It is fun to watch our priest (Father Bill) beam with pride when his beautiful and talented wife takes the stage and brings the house down!
He too is quite an accomplished musician, playing guitar and writing many of the worship songs we use on Sundays. He also leads a “Hymn-Sing” once a month at Peabody Place Assisted Living in Franklin, accompanied by others from the church. It has been a real source of blessing, both for the residents and Father Bill’s volunteer choir (anyone is free to come and join in to sing, then visit with the residents on fourth Thursdays at 10:15 AM).
Meanwhile, the ministry to the hungry, homeless, lonely, or poor in body or spirit continues to serve at Archways in Franklin, from 3 to 4:30 PM, on Wednesdays, providing a hot soup or casserole, sandwiches, coffee, water, and cookies. Prayer with trained prayer ministers is provided upon request.
Recovering addicts from Teen Challenge will be visiting our church on Sunday, March 23, and available after church with information and opportunities to learn more about the ministry that was founded in 1958 by Pastor David Wilkerson of “The Sword and The Spirit” and “Times Square Church” fame. It is still believed to be one of the most effective programs to free men and women from substance abuse and addiction. Come and hear their testimonies of changed lives. Spread the word!
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent on Wednesday, March 5. We will be holding two services: at 12:15 PM and 7:15 PM. Please come and join us in this traditional service to receive ashes on your forehead to prepare for 40 days of counting down to the joyous celebration of the resurrection of our Lord on Easter Sunday. EACH WEDNESDAY IN LENT A SERVICE OF HEALING/COMMUNION WILL BE OFFERED AT 12:15 PM. ALL ARE INVITED.
(More on Easter next month!)
