FRANKLIN — Franklin High School celebrates a landmark season for its basketball teams’ performance and the successful transition into a state-of-the-art gymnasium. The gym officially opened earlier this season and has quickly become a beloved hub for students, athletes, and the broader community.
In late spring 2024, Franklin High School was awarded a generous grant of $117,000 from The Pat Connaughton Foundation. Franklin High School was the only school in New England to receive this prestigious grant. This significant contribution was instrumental in their efforts to renovate and revitalize their beloved gymnasium.
The community stepped forward and donated another $60,000 to complete the renovations. The new facility, designed to enhance the player and spectator experience, boasts a vibrant atmosphere that has elevated school spirit to new heights. Students and community members have embraced the space, making every game lively and unforgettable.
“Our new gym has been a game-changer,” said David Bedard, Head Coach of the Boys Basketball team. “The energy from the fans and our players’ pride when they step onto the court is unmatched. It’s inspiring to see how much it means to everyone.”
The Boys and Girls Basketball teams have hit the ground running this season, putting up impressive records and showing great teamwork and determination. Players have expressed how the upgraded facilities have motivated them to perform their best.
For the last 30+ years, Franklin High School student-athletes have practiced and played their games at the Middle School. Although it was a “home” game, it wasn’t at their school, and the student-athletes often had to navigate different practice and game times due to middle school activities.
“This gym feels like home,” said Harrison Kaplan, a senior captain on the team. “We’re so grateful for the support from our school and the community. It pushes us to give our all every time we play.”
The community’s love for the new gym goes beyond game nights. From pep rallies to open-house events, the facility has become a gathering place that fosters connection and school pride. “It’s more than a gym — it’s a symbol of what Franklin High School stands for,” said Athletic Director Dan Sylvester. “This space represents our commitment to excellence and unity.”
With a strong start to the season and overwhelming community support, Franklin High School’s basketball teams are proving that the new gym is not just a venue but a catalyst for continued success. Fans eagerly anticipate the rest of the season, ready to cheer their teams on to victory in their new home.
