Kearsarge WindowDressers Provides Storm Windows

Volunteers fabricated 192 window inserts

Press release

NEW LONDON — Many thanks to all who participated in the Kearsarge WindowDressers Community Build of custom interior-mounted storm windows in November, co-sponsored by Kearsarge Climate Action (KCA) and Kearsarge Neighborhood Partners (KNP) at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in New London. Over five days, 85 volunteers gathered, many working multiple four-hour shifts as supervisors, insert builders, greeters, food providers, and transporters of materials and equipment.

The volunteers fabricated 192 window inserts, 45 of which went to special-rate customers to help make their inserts affordable. These new interior storm windows now warm 28 Kearsarge area homes in nine towns, saving energy costs and reducing CO2 emissions this winter.

Window insert recipients joined with volunteers from the community as everyone learned simple construction tasks and enjoyed conversation and meals together. It went so well that the build finished two days ahead of schedule. The extra 20 volunteers who were ready to work on those days will have to wait till next year!

WindowDressers started in Maine in 2010, building insulated custom window inserts to keep homes warmer in winter, reduce heating fuel usage, and help the environment. The program has since spread through Vermont and New Hampshire. In 14 years, they have built over 68,000 inserts, decreasing the use of over 3,000,000 gallons of fuel oil and reducing 36,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
