NEW LONDON — Summer Music Associates will offer another outstanding concert season, celebrating 52 years of extraordinary music. Opening the season on Saturday, June 28, at the Sawyer Center Theater at Colby-Sawyer College, the 75-piece Boston Civic Symphony will be joined by Ashley Bathgate, cellist, performing the Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor by Camille Saint-Saëns. The program will also include Richard Wagner’s Overture to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 4.
On Thursday, July 10, at the First Baptist Church, the Riverside Brass Quintet, led by virtuoso trumpeter Geoffrey Shamu, will present a mix of pop, classical, and jazz to delight everyone in the audience!
At the First Baptist Church, on Thursday, July 24, pianist Fred Moyer returns, bringing a dual concert: classical piano for the first half, and when joined by his trio, a collection of jazz classics for the second half.
The Manhattan Chamber Players make their New London debut on Thursday, August 7, at the First Baptist Church, with a violin, viola, cello, and flute quartet. Their classical program will include pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Glière, and Devienne.
The season ends on August 21, at the church, with an all-star tribute to jazz legend Duke Ellington! The Ellington Collective, a sextet of jazz heavyweights, blend their unique talents to breathe new life into Ellington’s classic repertoire.
