The Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum announces its July events:

Now through July 14 – Exhibit: Containers. Bark, marsh-plant fiber, ash splint, gourd, cattails, wire and newspaper – these are some of the materials that have been skillfully and artfully twined, woven, carved, folded, or sewn into the containers in the Contemporary Art Gallery. Containers will focus on connecting the works of art to the plants from which they have been made.

July 10 Free Family Fun: The Powwow is Coming! 9 AM-noon. Get ready for our 14th Annual Intertribal Powwow. Learn about the clothing, the instruments, and the dances that are all part of a powwow. There will be some hands-on activities and a powwow-related craft.

July 13 and 14 – 14th Annual Intertribal Powwow, gates open 10 AM, Grand Entry at noon. Members and Native Americans free admission. Nonmembers $8.50 adults, $7.50 seniors/students, $6.50 children ages six-12, family maximum of $26.

July 24 Free Family Fun: Fun and Games 9 AM-noon. What sort of games did native children in the Northeast Woodlands play? How did they learn the skills they would need as adults? We’ll be playing games that kids in the Northeast Woodlands played and still play today!

July 31 Free Family Fun: Eating Off the Land  9AM-noon. What do you eat when you can’t go to the grocery store to buy food? We’ll find out Wednesday, July 31. Come prepared for a walk in the woods and fields. We’ll do a related craft and play a game.
