ASLPT Leads Hike at Stoney Brook Project

Fundraising underway to conserve 145 acres

Press release

On Thursday, August 15, from 4 to 6 PM, join Aubson Sargent Land Preservation Trust (ASLPT) as we explore the Stoney Brook Project in Newbury, an important 145-acre property that provides the final link between two large conservation properties and provides source water flowing into Chalk Pond, Blodgett Brook , Lake Sunapee, Ring Brook, and Andrew Brook.

Beth McGuinn, ASLPT Land Protection Specialist and Phil Brown, Audubon’s Director of Land Management, will lead this hike over the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway trail, traveling over old woods roads and in untrailed areas. We’ll see large remnant trees, discuss wildlife habitat, and explore cellar holes and stone walls.

The Stoney Brook Conservation Alliance is currently raising funds to conserve this property, and once successful, the land will be owned by New Hampshire Audubon with a conservation easement held by ASLPT.

The hike will be moderately strenuous, with significant off-trail hiking and some steep up and down grades. Light refreshments will be served. Please contact Nancy Smith at 526-6555 or NSmith@nullAusbonSargent.org if you plan to join us.
