![Carl Memmolo of Depot Street writes, "I loved Tim Frost's article [in the August issue] on the woman chased by a bear. It made me remember what happened last fall. "I was in my shed when I suddenly heard someone screaming. I ran to the edge of my property and saw a boy pedaling with all his might down the Rail Trail. There was a 300-lb black bear chasing the boy! I must have startled it, as it broke off its chase and charged off into the woods. "I called my neighbor, Joe Vosburgh, and he went on his quad, looking for boy to check on him, but the boy must never haved stopped, he must have been so scared." Carl adds, "Just an FYI to people who walk the rail trail: keep an eye out, as a bear can come out of nowhere." The wildlife camera shot Carl sent wasn't taken the same day, but it's probably the same bear, this time nosing around in Carl's yard.](https://andoverbeacon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Outdoors-Bear-near-Rail-Trail.jpg)
