Join the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust (ASLPT) and the Sutton Conservation Commission on Thursday, September 12, at 3 PM for a hike to the historic granite quarries on the newly-added William Bean Quarry easement.
This property, which was protected by an easement before it was transferred to the Town of Sutton, was specifically listed in the Town of Sutton 2005 Master Plan as one of the 21 cornerstones in the Community Cornerstones Project due to the views from the property and the presence of the old granite quarries.
The statewide Community Cornerstones Project was designed to help towns identify various natural and cultural aspects that were important to the heritage of the town. The William Bean Quarry property also provides scenic enjoyment to the public for hiking and traveling along King Hill Road.
The protection of this property adds to over 1,059 acres of conserved land adjacent to and near the property, including ASLPT’s King Hill Reservation, Kezar Conservation Group, and Putnam and Enroth Easements; the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forest’s Bristol Easement; and the Audubon Society’s Stoney Brook Wildlife Sanctuary.
This will be a more difficult hike because of steep ground. Please contact Nancy Smith at 526-6555 or NSmith@nullAusbonSargent.org if you plan to join us.
