ASLPT Update

Nan updated members on ASLPT happenings. Of particular interest will be a Woods Forum that will be held in Andover in August. More details to follow.

Updates from Prior Meetings

E-mail master plan narrative to members – Tina will send out

Web site on State Conservation Commission Site – Jason is experiencing some problems with Web editor and will have a progress report next meeting.

Legislative update from State Conservation Commission Association handed out.

Nan and Jerry have identified landowners in their areas for notification to wildlife events.

Larry will confirm New Hampshire Fish and Game Wildlife Management area walk to take place on May 23.

Wildlife Project Planning and Events

Mary Anne and Lorraine Cline presented the Cooperative Extension talk on “Gardening for Wildlife” to the Andover Service Club on May 8.

The planting of the New Hampshire Wildlife shrub package by Proctor and AE/MS students is scheduled for the last week of May.

After much discussion, a vote was taken to determine if the Commission would fund $250 to $300 to pay for a presentation/wildlife and nature walk by Dave Anderson of the Forest Society. The vote was 1 abstention, 2 for, and 3 against.

Note: In a subsequent e-mail vote, an amount of $100 was approved with 1 abstention, 4 for, and 1 against. This event will be booked for July 11.

June 19 Talk on Loons: An amount equal to half of the rental cost ($37.50) for the East Andover Grange Hall was approved. The vote was 3 for and 2 against. This event is co-sponsored with the Highland Lake Protective Association.

Talk by Andover’s Mooseman, Rick Libbey: Members agree this would be a good event. We will determine if costs are involved before a final decision is made.

Beth McGuinn advised of two potential events that ASLPT could provide for no cost:

  • Basic bird watching: We will consider this in the future.

  • Tree identification: Jason will pursue this with Beth.

Bog Pond Area: Nan has explored the area and is not sure if the proposed Wildlife Inventory talk by Cooperative Extension is suitable. She will discuss with Emma Carfagno.

New Items

Wind Turbines: Members requested information on the documentary Windfalls that will soon be shown in Danbury. The trailer is available on TinyURL.com/n68ddds.

Ed Spencer has offered to provide baseline documentation for any Andover conservation easement that does not already have such documentation.

Mary Anne has contacted Laura Alexander regarding updating of GIS disk of overlays. More details next meeting.
