The Wilmot Farmers Market is experiencing a very successful 2013 season this year. Many residents and visitors have supported the “buy local” philosophy, and September holds the promise of continuing success.
The market now has a certified organic farmer to add to the current eclectic mix of meat, produce, and craft vendors. Hot breakfasts and lunch served by Live Free or Die Catering continue to be a big hit.
The September education booth schedule includes:
-
Julie Morse, who will show how to prepare wool for use and demonstrate on her spinning wheel
-
Cheryl Sisson of Danbury, who will have several of her farm animals and products
-
John and Margaret Monto, master marionette makers, will bring some of their marionette family to meet the public
The last market will feature a primer on putting the garden to bed by Nancy Schlosser and Mary Fanelli.
Be sure to bring the children to the Saturday, September 14 market when Cheryl brings her chicks, hens, ducks, kid goats, lambs, and various farm products that they produce. She will also bring her spinning wheel and handloom, so if anyone misses the spinning program on Saturday, September 7, they can try their hand the following week. Cheryl plans to have samples of farm products, and she is now making her own goat cheese from her milking goats.
On the last day of the market, Saturday, September 28, the Wilmot Community Association will sponsor a Home Harvest Luncheon at the Red Barn on Village Road using produce from market vendors. There will also be a raffle of handcrafted products donated by Wilmot Market vendors.
This season has seen a wonderful collaboration between the Wilmot Community Association and the Wilmot Farmers Market. The education booth has featured the new WOW window that lists all the non-profit organizations in Wilmot. A shoe bag full of information on these organizations is always available next to the window.
Andover residents Susan Chase and Gisela Darling have assisted with press releases and signage for the market this season.
