The students in the AE/MS middle school, grades five through eight, participated in this year’s annual Day of Remembrance. In Social Studies classes, the students discussed the importance of remembering September 11, 2001 and Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1941.
The students developed an understanding of the events of September 11 and compared them to the attack on Pearl Harbor. The students engaged in a class discussion followed by a writing activity. The topic this year was “What does September 11 mean to me?”
Once again we had the great support of Bill Leber, who donated four hats, which were given to the writers of selected standout essays. This year it was extremely tough to choose those essays, and we wished everyone could have been able to wear the remembrance hats.
The following students won the honor of wearing the remembrance hats in school for a day: Jarrett Benson, fifth grade; Hunter Hawks, sixth grade; Devin Barton, seventh grade; Koby Perreault, eighth grade.
