People - Deaths - 131004 MackeyStanley J. (Jake) Mackey, 83, of Andover passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of William and Alice (Golas) Mackey on January 18, 1930. He attended St. Stanislaus School and Lowell High School, graduating in 1948.

In 1952 he was called to serve his country during the Korean War. He did his tour of duty at Fort Sherman in the Panama Canal Zone. He was honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of Corporal.

He moved to Windham, New Hampshire in 1959, where he was a volunteer fireman and an auxiliary policeman. He worked as a machinist at Raytheon in Lowell until 1966, when he became the first full-time fireman in Windham. He worked his way up through the ranks and became Chief of the Fire Department in 1978. He retired in 1989 after serving the town of Windham for 30 years.

In 1990 he and his wife built a retirement home in Andover, where he has lived for the past 23 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eileen (Silva) Mackey of Andover; three children: Susan Monty and her husband, Greg of Derry, New Hampshire; Robert Mackey and his wife, Karen of Windham, New Hampshire; and Thomas Mackey of Andover. He also leaves five grandchildren: Tara and Evan Monty of Derry, Ryan and Aaron Mackey of Windham, and Samantha Mackey of Andover; two sisters, Sophie Wright of Wilton, New Hampshire, Anna Westphal of Boscawen, and one brother, Walter Mackey of Lowell, Massachusetts, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 18 at 10:30 AM at the Searles Chapel in Windham, New Hampshire.
