Recently, you may have seen East Andover Village Preschool walking around the community. One day, we joined Firefighter Tim Eltzroth and Firefighter Jake Johnson at the East Andover Fire Station to learn all about Fire Safety Week. We saw and tested out some of the tools that keep our firefighters safe and explored the “Big Red Truck” as well as the ambulance. We thank you very much for taking time to open up the fire station for this highly anticipated event!

We have also taken two walks up Maple Street to visit Peter and Mary Zak at the Highland Lake Apple Farm. While on our trips up the street, we have had the chance to be a part of the cider-making process, from collecting apples to pressing them and tasting the finished product.

We each picked some apples to bring back to school and got the chance to climb a ladder and pick some of the biggest apples in Andover. The apples we brought back to school were used to bake and cook with. Thank you for allowing us to visit and be a part of your daily farm routine!

During the month of October, we have continued to explore the many changes that are occurring outside our own classroom window and have been able to explore science terms and processes. We have kept close observations on our tree as the colors have gone from green to red and orange to now falling to the ground. With the changes in temperature from warm to cool, Mr. Weather Bear has begun to wear a sweatshirt and/or coat in our daily weather discussions. There have been conversations about hibernation as we put our gardens to “bed.”

As Halloween approached, we recited and sang new songs in anticipation. Some of our class favorites are Brown Owl, Brown Owl What Do You See and The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything. We investigated pumpkins, played with the gooey insides, and examined the seeds, along with using graphs to make our own class Jack O’Lanterns. We went on a costumed parade to visit the East Andover Post Office and enjoyed some festive games and activities to celebrate.

Come join us on Saturday, November 16 at Andover Elementary/Middle School from 5 to 7 PM for our annual Spaghetti Dinner and Raffle.
