ANDOVER ELEMENTARY MIDDLE SCHOOL
November 6, 2013
Dear AEMS Family,
The AEMS school community will come together on Tuesday morning at 9:00 to honor our Andover veterans. We are very fortunate that many area veterans attend this assembly every year. It is very important for our school community to educate our students on the contributions veterans have made throughout the years. This has become a significant event at AEMS and one we look forward to every November. Students will express their gratitude and respect through musical selections, readings and other presentations. Our special speaker is Charlie Giles, a retired Navy fighter pilot, who is a favorite of students and staff members.
Square One Art information went home with students last week. You have the option of ordering gifts based on your child’s artwork either online or by sending an order back in to school before November 19th. Either way, it needs to be completed by November 19th for Christmas delivery. I have seen several of the student drawings and they will clearly become a treasured gift of friends and family. The company only created one packet per child so I apologize if that makes it difficult for some families.
Andover sportswear order forms are attached. The AEMS sportswear will be back in time for Christmas presents. Please signify on the order form if it is a Christmas present and we will NOT send it home with your child.
This is a l-o-n-g weekend for students. Friday is Teacher Workshop Day and Monday is the observance of Veteran’s Day.
Now that the cooler weather is here all students come into the building through the lobby doors upon arrival in the morning. Students arriving late still need to enter through the main office door. All students have the option of walking in the gym in the morning. Music fills the gym as students walk laps socializing and enjoying each others’ company before the first bell rings at 7:40. It is a pleasant way to start the day! Breakfast is ready to pick up afterward. Regular walkers receive little collectible tokens randomly throughout the winter.
We really aren’t trying to rush the season but we have attached paperwork for Grandparent Thanksgiving and a wreath order form.
Congratulations to the MVHS field hockey team. They went all the way to the Championship game and then lost in overtime to Windham. We are proud of the team effort and especially proud of our Andover seniors; Erin Frost, Bekka Stearns, and Haley Adams.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call or stop in.
Enjoy the four day weekend!
Sincerely,
Jane Slayton
