Anybody who’s eaten a slice of Andover resident Harvey Pine’s homemade bread at a potluck supper knows how great it is. Here’s your chance to learn how to make this super-easy Dutch oven bread yourself. Join Harvey at his home on Saturday, January 25, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, to learn the process, help turn out a few loaves, and sample the end result. Bring an apron and plan on getting your hands in the dough.
Participants in this informal, free-of-charge workshop are limited to 12; please RSVP to Susan Chase at srfchase@nullaol.com or 735-5135 if you’d like to attend. The Pines live at 23 Switch Road, the first house on the left off Route 11 between Andover and East Andover.
This gathering is sponsored by the Kearsarge Valley Transition Initiative (KVTI), which encourages the towns in the Kearsarge Valley to develop a greater reliance on local resources in facing such global issues as economic insecurity, environmental instabilities, and energy shortages. Learning from one another and sharing skills among neighbors and friends is an important concept in the Transition movement; the KVTI plans to offer a series of skills-sharing workshops such as this one.
This session is co-sponsored by the Andover Public Library, which will have a selection of bread-making books on display during January.
