Gladys E. (Hadley) Brooks, 99, formerly of New London, died on December 5, 2013 at Elm Wood Center in Claremont. She was born in Antrim on November 27, 1914, the daughter of Horace E. and Sadie E. (Adams) Hadley. She graduated from Andover High School in 1935 and then moved to New London in 1941.
Gladys had been employed by Colby Junior College and then Colby-Sawyer College as a maid and faculty waitress and then retired in 1984 as a switchboard operator after 42 years of service to the College.
She was a member of the First Free Baptist Church of Wilmot; Past Master of the New London Grange; Past Noble Grand of Crystal Rebekah Lodge; and Past District Deputy of three lodges.
Her husband, Theodore L. Brooks, died in 1977. Members of her family surviving include her sister, Ruth H. Bennett of Claremont; two nieces, Jo Ann E. Bennett-Mason of Ocala, Florida and Lou Ann E. Bennett of Live Oak, Florida; a grandniece, Sarah E. Raid of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and a great-grandniece, Sophia Elizabeth Raid; and cousins.
