Gilbert O. Gaudette, age 91, a resident of Andover, formerly of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the New London Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor L. (Farnsworth) Gaudette.
Gilbert was born in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, on August 2, 1922, a son of the late Napoleon and Grace (Bessette) Gaudette. He attended Chelmsford schools and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for many years by New England Telephone.
Gilbert proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and Korea. He was a former member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks No. 87.
He also enjoyed fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
His survivors include two sons, Michael E. Gaudette and his wife, Barbara, of Uncasville, Connecticut and Oliver J. Gaudette of Andover; one daughter, Elizabeth M. Gaudette of Rochester; four sisters, Alma Knight of Florence, South Carolina, Theresa Knight of Manchester, Rena Gaudette of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and Rita Ayotte of Lowell, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Stephanie Hoffman and her husband, Ryan, of Marlborough, Connecticut and Timothy Gaudette and his wife, Ann, of Worcester, Massachusetts; one great-grandson, Connor Hoffman of Marlborough, Connecticut; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends called on December 27 at the Archambault Funeral Home in Lowell. Gilbert’s funeral Mass was be celebrated the following day at St. Margaret’s Church in Lowell. Interment with military honors followed at the Lowell Cemetery. Donations in memory of Gilbert may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham MA 01701-9376.
