The Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust’s twenty-fifth annual meeting was held on Sunday, October 21 and was marked by the election of four new members to the Board of Trustees; Charlie Foss, Steve Allenby, and Doug Lyon of New London and Susan Nooney from Wilmot. New officers were also elected and are; John Garvey, Professor at the University of New Hampshire Law School, of New London as Chairman, Doug Lyon of New London as Vice-Chairman, and Nan Kaplan of Andover as Secretary. Paula Wyeth of Newbury was re-elected as an officer and will continue as Treasurer of the organization.
Celebrating twenty five years of land conservation, Ausbon Sargent has helped to protect the rural character of the Mt. Kearsarge/Lake Sunapee region for public benefit through conservation agreements, stewardship, partnerships and education. The land trust is active in the towns of Andover, Bradford, Danbury, Goshen, Grantham, Newbury, New London, Springfield, Sunapee, Sutton, Warner and Wilmot and has protected nearly 10,000 acres in 120 projects since its founding.
Charlie Foss retired to New London seven years ago from Newton, Connecticut where he worked as Director of Materials Management at Watson Laboratories. Charlie received his BA in Political Science from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA.
Steve Allenby moved to New London after living for 30 years in Proctor, Vermont. He holds a BA from Heidelberg University and a JD from Vermont Law School. Steve is a director of Kearsarge Energy, a venture capital company that develops renewable energy projects throughout the country.
Doug Lyon has been a New London resident since 1990 and recently retired from Colby-Sawyer College after serving 22 years as Chief Financial Officer. He received a BA in Philosophy and a MA in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire.
Retiring from the Board this year after six years of service with two as chairman, is Greg Berger of New London. Along with serving as chairman, Greg has served as a member of the Lands, Executive, Finance, Development, and Leadership Committees. Also retiring from the Board after many years of service are Bill Clough, Maggie Ford, Jack Sheehan and Dave Payne. Bill served six years on the Board of Trustees and was a member of the Lands Committee. Maggie served seven years on the Board during which time she chaired the Development Committee and served as Secretary for one year. Jack served six years as a member of the Board and as Chairman of both the Finance and Investment Committees. Dave Payne served four years on the Board and was a valuable member of the Finance Committee throughout his tenure.
