It has been such a bizarre winter so far that it is hard to guess what Mother Nature has in store for us next. But one thing you can count on is that the Andover Fish and Game Club (AF&G) will be hosting its two annual ice fishing derbies.

First, the Al Chadwick Memorial Ice Fishing Derby, which is open to any aspiring angler, will be held on Saturday, February 8, at Kezar Lake in North Sutton. The entry fee is $10 per person, and there will be cash prizes awarded for each category.

The derby starts at first light and ends at 1 PM. Please bring your own tackle, bait, and refreshments. When you arrive, register at the bob house with the red flag at the west end of the lake. If you have any questions about this derby, call 735-5815.

Second, the 30th annual Willis Nowell Memorial Kids Ice Fishing Derby, for kids 15 and under, will be held on Eagle Pond in Wilmot (off of Route 4) on Saturday, March 1. (Bad weather date is March 2.) Registration begins at 9 AM, and the derby runs from 9:30 AM to 12 noon.

Tackle and bait will be provided, and there will be plenty of free food and drink. Lucky prizes, participation ribbons, and trophies will be awarded to the kids with the best catches. Come join the AF&G for a fun time with the family. Call 735-5311 with any questions about this derby.

Thank you to everyone who has attended our fundraising events, which make it possible for the AF&G to sponsor fun, family-friendly experiences like these derbies. An important mission of the AF&G is to educate the public, particularly children, about the outdoors, wildlife, and outdoor sports such as hunting and fishing. We always appreciate your support.

Thank you as well to Club members and their families and to supporters of the AF&G, who donate time, money, and supplies to our events.
