The Wilmot Community Association (WCA) named Patricia McGoldrick as its volunteer of the year during the organization’s annual meeting, Saturday, Jan. 25.
In July 2012, McGoldrick agreed to spend two years as the WCA’s executive director.
Also lauding McGoldrick for her work on behalf of the WCA were Meredith resident Sen. Jeanie Forrester, N.H. Senate District 2, which includes Wilmot; and Wilmot resident Rep. Tom Schamberg, N.H. House District 4, which includes Wilmot. Forrester presented McGoldrick with a proclamation from the N.H. Senate. Schamberg gave McGoldrick an accolade from Gov. Maggie Hassan.
“Thank you very much,” McGoldrick said. “It has been a real honor to work on behalf of the WCA.”
WCA members elected Ann Davis, president; Margaret Monto, secretary; and Roy Finney, treasurer. Each officer will serve a one-year-term.
Davis noted in her annual report that thanks to volunteers, the WCA is a vibrant institution in Wilmot. “The WCA, founded in 1963 is now in its 51st year of bringing neighbors together in Wilmot,” Davis said.
“In 2013, roughly 6,000 people attended an event sponsored by the WCA or by another organization at the WCA’s Red Barn on Village Road or Timmy Patten Park, the playground, picnic area and beach the organization owns on Shindagan Road.
“We had nearly 200 volunteers who contributed about 3,500 hours to ensure the organization’s success in 2013,” she added. “We had a wildly successful year.”
Davis recognized outgoing board members, Jen Caponigro and Annette Vogel for their work on behalf of the WCA. She also noted a special pool of volunteers – spouses – including Sue Finney, Marc Davis, John Gutman, John Monto and Keith Seamans.
Roy Finney presented a summary of the WCA’s 2013 finances. “Our annual budget is about $55,000,” he said. “Thanks to the hard work of a lot of people, we closed the year in the black.”
Programs and events in 2014 will include the Black Fly Blitz, Imagination into Art, Harvest Home Luncheon, Barn Sale at the Red Barn, the Scarecrow Contest, Halloween Trick or Treat, the Holiday Craft Fair and the Wilmot Express.
Focusing on the importance of volunteers to the WCA, McGoldrick outlined two new volunteer programs the organization will launch in 2014.
In closing, Davis noted, “The WCA’s mission is to provide the facilities for social, educational, and recreational programs for folks who live in Wilmot. We did that and more in 2013; we look forward to another excellent year in 2014.”
