I have been Town Moderator for two years, trying to fit Ed Becker’s size 19 shoes. I am running again to serve Andover. Don’t confuse me with my brother Duncan, a selectman: I am the better-looking and much better fed brother.
My goals are straightforward: to run a fair, efficient Town Meeting where all can speak (and no one can speak too much!). I study the rules governing town meetings and attend Moderator’s seminars to learn from other moderators. I try to be even-handed and keep things moving. I hope I generally succeed, and that I am reasonably quick to acknowledge my mistakes.
I have lived in Andover for three years now. I was previously Town Moderator in Bradford for several years. I am a practicing business, intellectual property, and patent attorney with offices in Keene and a home office in Andover. I serve as chairman of the Andover Zoning Board of Adjustment, and I am a member of the Andover Lions Club. I volunteer for the Beacon, and, in better weather, the Swap Shop.
At this year’s Town Meeting we will have at least two ballot votes, and the coupon system of balloting I introduced last year will get a chance to be tested. I think it will speed things along. We will have the same check-in procedure; once again to make sure only registered voters get to vote. It seemed to work well last year and not make people wait too long to check in.
