“Strengthening Our Community – One Family at a Time,” a Women and Families Symposium addressing today’s concerns of youth, health, environment, and disaster, will be held on Saturday, March 29, at Manchester Community College. The Lions Clubs of Multiple District 44 and Manchester Community College are sponsoring the event.
The symposium is free and open to the public. Speakers are expected to include Governor Maggie Hassan and Lions Past International Director Carolyn Messier. During the symposium, attendees are invited to participate in discussions regarding youth, health, the environment, and disaster preparedness through Lions International and in New Hampshire. The event will also include free childcare for children ages 4 to 12.
“One goal of Lions International President Barry Palmer is to increase Lions’ membership of women by 2017. Our symposium, geared toward women, will create an awareness of Lions’ efforts in New Hampshire,” said 44N District Governor Sandra Hurd. 44H District Governor Jim Robinson adds, “Our district has been encouraging women for almost 30 years, however I’m not sure the general public is aware of that fact. Women represent 40% of the members of District 44H. We would like women to represent 50% of our membership by our 100th birthday in 2017. The Women and Families Symposium will be a huge first step in reaching that goal.”
“Helping Our Children” is part of the Lions Family and Women Symposium Program, a program for Lions Clubs worldwide to gather community members to discuss issues of relevance to families. As a result of the symposium, the Lions of New Hampshire hope to implement a program to meet some of the pressing community needs discussed by event participants.
Lions Clubs are humanitarian service clubs that have been active in the New Hampshire community for over 90 years. Their programs include providing vision and hearing assistance through Lions Clubs, and youth programs through Lions Youth Services.
