The community is invited to the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts’ “First Friday” event on April 4 from 5 to 7 PM. This evening’s program of Words, Music, and Art is brought to you by the Center’s Literary Arts Guild. The event will be held at the Lake Sunapee Protective Association’s Knowlton House in Sunapee Harbor. All Center for the Arts First Friday events are free and open to the public. A reception with light refreshments will be served following the program.
To begin the evening, the winners of the poetry writing contest sponsored by the Center for the Arts / Literary Arts Guild will be announced. The focus for this year’s contest is to create poetry from a life experience. Two winners from each of the four categories will be invited to read their poem to the audience. The four categories are: Adults, High School Students, Middle School Students, and Elementary School Students.
Prizes for this event’s winners will be provided by the New London Rotary Club. Each winner will also receive a certificate, honoring their work as poets.
Caroline Fairless and Jim Sims will keynote this evening. Their topic is Experience and Imagination – Partners in the Creative Dance. Caroline and Jim have partnered their respective arts for years, each enriching the other. On this occasion, she will share the often unwieldy process of translating one’s life experiences into narrative fiction through the lens of imagination. Jim will offer his music works as they have emerged directly from his life experience. Said another way, Caroline will speak to the importance of stepping back and allowing imagination to inform her work. Jim will address the immediacy of music.
On the First Friday of each month, the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts (CFA) hosts a series of free arts programs for the community, including gallery openings and receptions, classical and folk music nights, literary and poetry nights, as well as theater night. Working with their business partners in the community, CFA continues to showcase local and regional talent in the Lake Sunapee area for the benefit of the artists, performers, residents, and visitors to our beautiful region.
The Center for the Arts is a volunteer organization which welcomes your participation.
