Robert Randolph has been named one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists,” by Rolling Stone magazine, adding “He’s one of the most intense live acts in all of jamdom” and citing his solos as “perpetually cresting, lightning-fast explorations.” Expect a high-energy night of Funk, Soul, and Blues-Rock celebrating the history of African-American music at The Flying Monkey Performance Center on Friday, March 21 at 7:30 PM. Tickets start at $39.
Robert is a virtuoso pedal steel guitarist whose family band celebrates African-American music of the past 100 years. Their music is American funk and soul at its finest when they deliver the message of hope through their uplifting beat and lyrics. Some have said that the Randolph family sound is reminiscent of the funk and soul of Earth, Wind, and Fire and Sly and the Family Stone.
Robert Randolph and the Family Band first gained national attention with the release of the album Live at the Wetlands in 2002, then followed up with their first studio recording Unclassified, attracting the attention of Eric Clapton. Since then, the band has toured with Clapton, Santana, and the Dave Matthews Band.
As a headline act, they have developed a large, passionate following built upon legendary performances at such major festivals as Bonnaroo, Crossroads, Hard Rock Calling, Montreux Jazz, Austin City Limits, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
“Robert Randolph is an American Original,” says Don Was, President of Randolph’s new label, Blue Note Records. “He has mastered what is, arguably, the most complex instrument in the world and developed a unique voice that is equal parts street-corner church and Bonnaroo. Fans worldwide have taken notice of this American original, with audiences and critics alike singing the praises of this unique superstar.”
Expect an evening that will excite that deepest part of your soul with music and leave you a lifelong fan of this exciting new American artist.
