The Speaker Series at the South Danbury Church continues its Friday night programming with a new season, optimistically dedicated to Spring. “Whatever the weather actually is,” says Kathy Neustadt, one of the series’ organizers, “we have some great evenings coming up, with interesting people and fascinating topics.” The talks begin at 6:30 PM, light refreshments will be served, and it’s all free to the public (although donations will, of course, be accepted).
On Friday, April 11, Ben Kilham of Lyme, New Hampshire will be talking about What Bears Have Taught Me. A bear biologist, Kilham — who is self-taught rather than university-educated because of his severe dyslexia — has become a celebrity in his field: he’s been the subject of a number of National Geographic documentaries, he’s been featured regularly on NPR, and he’s been a guest on many national television programs.
He is also the author of two books: Among the Bears: Raising Orphan Cubs in the Wild and his most recent one, Out on a Limb: What Black Bears Have Taught Me About Intelligence and Intuition, which will be the focus of his talk. There’s a lot to learn here and on a lot of levels.
The Friday, April 25 program will be announced once the speaker is confirmed — look for posters at the Danbury Country Store and on events boards around the area. The South Danbury Christian Church (an open and affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ) is located at 1411 US Route 4 in South Danbury.
