John R. McAuliffe, 91, of Gilford, died on November 19, 2015, in his home. He was born on June 20, 1924, in Owens Mouth, California, the son of the late John T. and Bertha (Parsonage) McAuliffe. He grew up in Wilmot and graduated from Andover High School in 1942.people - deaths - 151119 mcauliffe

John served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He received a BS in Civil Engineering from UNH and worked for 37 years for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation as a highway construction engineer. John was also the head of the railroad division for the State of New Hampshire.

He was a member of the Evangelical Baptist Church of Laconia. John enjoyed hunting, traveling in his RV, antique car restoration, and snowmobiling and was also a train and model railroad enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife, Annie E. (Butterfield) McAuliffe, of Gilford; one son, John T. McAuliffe, and his wife Elaine C. of Alton; two daughters: Marsha E. MacNeil and her husband Harry of Hampton, and Joan L. Chagnon and her husband Brit of Londonderry; two brothers: William D. McAuliffe of Florida and Thomas G. McAuliffe of Dalton; six grandchildren: Miles, Lauren, Marc and Jake Chagnon, and John R. and Kyle B. McAuliffe; and nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours were held on November 24 at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home in Laconia. Funeral services followed at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
