Mount Sunapee Presents March and April Madness

Zany events, big concert round out the ski/ride season.

Press release

Mount Sunapee Resort has received 40 inches of snow since February 9, and there is more snow and more trails open on the mountain than any time so far in the season. This all points to lots of spring skiing and riding. As the spring season approaches, the special events get more frequent and a little zanier at Mount Sunapee.

Things start off with the 7th Annual Dummy Big Air Contest on Sunday, March 10. Participants build dummies on skis or on snowboards, and they are launched off a huge jump. There are cash prizes for most creative dummy, biggest air, best crash, and closest to the target. While we are expecting a few Lance Armstrong’s this year, it is reported that the cruise ship Triumph may make an appearance on skis or a snowboard.

On Saturday, March 23, the concert as part of FestEVOL weekend will be one of the biggest parties at any resort in the Northeast this spring. The Pete Kilpatrick Band with John Popper from Blues Traveler will open for the popular band O.A.R. The concert takes place in a 24,000-square-foot performance tent which provides an intimate setting in which to see some big national names in music. A concert/lift ticket package costs $89.

Things get a little wetter and wilder with the 15th Annual Slush Cup on Saturday, April 6. The first 200 participants who are lucky enough to get in will try to make it across a 90-foot slush pond on skis or a snowboard. There are prizes for the best skim, best splash, best costume, and best team costume. This is one of the biggest pond-skimming events in New England and was featured on the Travel Channel two years ago. The Slush Cup benefits the New Hampshire Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The next day, April 7, we wrap it up with the 22nd Annual Intragalactic Cardboard Sled Race. You won’t believe the sleds built out of nothing but cardboard, tape, paint, and wax and the costumes of their creators. The sleds are raced with three passengers down Eggbeater trail. There are prizes for the most creative sled/costumes, the fastest sled, and the sled that suffers the most self-destruction during the race. The Sled Race benefits David’s House.
