At 7:30 PM on Friday, June 7, The Flying Monkey is honored to bring the legendary Dickey Betts and his band to the Monkey stage. Betts is a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, where he became known as one of the most influential guitarists of all-time. New Hampshire’s own Ryan Brooks Kelly will open the night with his band. Tickets for this concert start at $59.

Dickey Betts won’t need an elaborate stage show or fancy threads to wow those who come out to watch him play some crackling, deep-fried Southern blues this Friday.

Betts and his band, Great Southern, will simply walk on stage, pick up their instruments, and proceed to lay into the crowd with a well-executed three-guitar, two-drummer attack. Betts’ performances typically lean heavily on instrumentals – an Allman Brothers specialty – at times coming across more like an off-the-cuff, impromptu, two-hour jam session than a rigidly rehearsed stage show. What would a night with Dickey Betts be if not with extended runs through the Allman Brothers Band’s “Blue Sky” and “Jessica?”

The 68-year-old founding Allman Brothers Band ax-slinger still emotionally connects with every single note that comes through his guitar – a tidal wave of thick distortion and blistering leads. Betts might show a little restraint to let his band show off their chops, most notably his son, Duane Betts, named after the late Duane Allman, who clearly inherited his father’s fretboard skills, but he will certainly let the crowd know he’s still one of the best in the business with a night of blistering guitar work.

“The man is a true living legend,” says Seth McNally, Entertainment Director at The Flying Monkey. “Expect a night where people are standing and playing air guitar along with the music, and the entire crowd is on their feet mouthing the words to “Ramblin’ Man.” it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Tickets to Dickey Betts & Great Southern are $59, and $69 for premier seats. For more information on upcoming shows or to purchase tickets, call the box office at 603-536-2551 or go online at www.FlyingMonkeyNH.com.
