The Flying Monkey in Plymouth is excited to announce its January film schedule. It starts off with Marley, a documentary on reggae’s most beloved icon on Saturday, January 4. Also coming soon are a silent classic, an indie music documentary, a ski film premiere, and a cult fantasy flick. The screenings are offered on the new digital projector in recently upgraded 5.1 surround on our impressive sound system.

The documentary Marley is featured on Saturday, January 4. Kevin Macdonald’s exhaustive, even-handed portrait of Bob Marley offers electrifying concert footage and fascinating insights into reggae’s greatest star.

Bob Marley’s universal appeal, impact on music history, and role as a social and political prophet is both unique and unparalleled. Marley is the definitive life story of the musician, revolutionary, and legend, from his early days to his rise to international superstardom. Made with the support of the Marley family, the film features rare footage, incredible performances, and revelatory interviews with the people who knew him best. This film will warm up Plymouth for the upcoming Wailers concert on Saturday, January 19.

Upcoming movies include a rare silent film comedy with live music accompaniment by Jeff Rapsis, a thrilling ski documentary presented by New Hampshire ski star Dan Egan, a critically acclaimed indie film that has become a festival darling, and an ’80’s fantasy flick starring music icon David Bowie that has become a cult classic.

“This theater was originally a silent film house in the 1920s, so we are excited to not only continue with that tradition, but also to expand our film offerings for the community,” says Seth McNally, Entertainment Director at The Flying Monkey.

Thursday, January 10, at 6:30 PM: Sally of the Sawdust (1925). A rare silent comedy/drama starring WC Fields and directed by DW Griffith, this heart-warming silent comedy tells the story of a lovably disreputable confidence man who becomes the unlikely guardian of an orphaned circus waif.

Sunday, January 20, at 7 PM: Legend of Aahh’s. The Plymouth premiere event lands on Martin Luther King weekend (one of the biggest skiing weekends of the year) and is presented by New Hampshire ski star Dan Egan. Admission includes a free lift pass to Cannon Mountain, which is worth the price of admission several times over. Twenty-five years after unleashing the award winning ski film Blizzard Of Aahhh’s upon the world, Greg Stump (Lifetime Achievement award from International Ski History Association, Maine State Ski Hall of Fame, named one of the 25 most influential people in skiing by Skiing magazine) returns to the ski film genre with Legend Of Aahhh’s.

Friday, January 25, at 7 PM: Searching for Sugar Man tells the incredible true story of Rodriguez, the greatest ’70s rock icon who never was. Discovered in a Detroit bar in the late ’60s by two celebrated producers struck by his soulful melodies and prophetic lyrics, they recorded an album which they believed would secure his reputation as the greatest recording artist of his generation.

Wednesday, January 30, at 7 PM: Labyrinth. This fantasy film was directed by Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets. It was produced by George Lucas, creator of the Star Wars films, and the screenplay was written by Terry Jones, member of the legendary Monty Python comedy group. It stars pop music icon David Bowie and a 14-year-old Jennifer Connelly.
