As summer comes to a close, the students of Andover don their backpacks, new shoes, and head to school. Inside of those bags are cleats or running shoes for students in the middle school who have chosen to come out for our fall sports programs.

Preseason started for both the cross country and the soccer teams on August 22. Both sports began developing a great team atmosphere right away and started working on conditioning as well as skill building. The idea of a healthy mind and body was shared with the student athletes.

Once again Brian Reynolds will be coaching our cross country team. Coach Reynolds has been with the program since its inception. He has developed a program that helps his runners begin to push their limits and meet their personal best every day. Andover is very excited and honored to have him on staff.

As the soccer team takes the field this year, you will see a very familiar face on the sidelines. Amy Makechnie has been the face of Andover soccer for the past few years. She has developed a program that weaves conditioning, skill building, and game play into a true team mentality. Once again it will be an absolute pleasure to have Coach Makechnie working with our student athletes.

Some important dates to remember are:

  • The soccer team will be hosting its annual jamboree on Saturday, October 1, at Proctor’s turf field.
  • The cross country team will have a home meet at Proctor Ski Area on Wednesday, October 5.
  • The cross country team will participate in the Extreme Chunkin 5K in memory of Don Gross on Saturday, October 15, at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
  • The soccer team will be traveling to a tournament on Saturday, October 22, at Kearsarge Regional Middle School to cap off the season.
