CFA Invites Students to Enter Art and Writing Contests

Art contest deadline is November 1

Press release

The Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the following contests for local students and invites them all to participate.

For students who enjoy the visual arts, we have a Holiday Art Contest with the theme of “Tidings of Joy.” The Center for the Arts is looking for original 2D art in the mediums of painting, pastels, drawing, photography, and printmaking.  Students in grades 3 through 12 should create and send in their art by Monday, November 1, to be considered.

Winners from each grade category will be chosen for this year’s CFA holiday cards, which will be printed and sold to raise money for student art scholarships and posted in the CFA Online Gallery. There will also be $25 for first place, and art supplies for second and third place winners.

Artwork should be submitted to Art@nullCFAnh.org and include name, age, grade, school, and town of residence. The acceptable file formats are jpg, gif, and png.

Teen Writers Competition

For the writers out there, the second annual Teen Writers Competition is also happening! Winners of the competitions in each genre will receive prizes from local business, publication in the Teen Writers Journal, and a spot in the next session of the Teen Writers Workshop.

Entries will be judged by local author and Colby Sawyer professor Megan Baxter. Megan will lead the workshop that follows the competition.

The competition is open to all writers between the ages of 12 and 18 who live in Andover, Bradford, Danbury, Grantham, New London, Newbury, Newport, Springfield, Sunapee, Sutton, Warner, or Wilmot.

Submissions in short fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction are acceptable. Writers are welcome to submit to multiple genres. For all submissions, please include the title of your piece, your name, address, and email address, as well as the name of the teacher you’d like to recognize. Please see the specific genre requirements at CFAnh.org/students.  Send all submissions to Submissions@nullCFAnh.org as a pdf and Word document attachment. In your email, please include your contact information.
