The original record book for the Tucker Mountain Schoolhouse, shown above, was presented to the William Adams Bachelder Library in East Andover by the Misses May J. and Edith S. Hersey of Altadena, California. The library gave it to the Andover Historical Society. Caption and photo: Donna Baker-Hartwell

The Andover Historical Society will hold an Open House at the one-room schoolhouse on Sunday, June 11, from 1 to 3 PM. Visitors will find this historical gem on Tucker Mountain Road, two miles up from the Highland Lake Inn.

Built in 1837 for $100, the school provided education for grades one through eight for 58 years. The Andover Historical Society has in its collection the original record book, which documents the annual school budget, the teachers who taught, the number of students, and the length of each session. The record book and a transcript of its contents will be on display and available to the public.

The school will be open to the public on the second Sunday of each month, from June through October. Visits may also be made by contacting the Andover Historical Society, at PO Box 167, Andover, NH 03216-0167, or Donna Baker-Hartwell at  donnabh@nulltds.net.
