Michaela Trefethen, an Andover resident and a sophomore majoring in Deaf Education and Elementary Education at Barton College in North Carolina, has started her own business!

Michaela felt the need to give to children less fortunate than herself, so she started PriscillaPlace – a not-for-profit, one-for-one handmade children’s clothing and toy company. One-for-one means that for each item sold at PriscillaPlace, a needy child will receive a similar item as a gift.

A graduate of AE/MS in 2008 and Proctor Academy in 2012, Michaela began her company in January of this year and designs and creates the clothing and toys herself. A team of “givers” from Barton College inspired her and helped her launch her Website at etsy.com/shop/PriscillaPlace, her Facebook page, and her Twitter account.

Many of Michaela’s family and friends have dedicated much of their time and energy to help bring PriscillaPlace to life, including her grandmother, Andover resident and Andover Library librarian Priscilla Poulin, for whom the company is named.

PriscillaPlace is planning on giving out backpacks, outfits, and toys to the children at Pender County Head Start in North Carolina this fall. Watch for the PriscillaPlace table at Andover’s Fourth of July celebration.
