At 7:30 PM on Friday, July 12, The Flying Monkey is excited to present a double bill with Gary Hoey and Johnny A. Known as two of the region’s most dynamic and exciting guitarists, they will each light up the stage with their unique style of blues-rock. Each will play a set with their hot bands, and likely share the stage at the end of the evening. Tickets for this concert start at $29.

We all know Gary Hoey can do pretty much anything on guitar. His cover of prototypical prog classic ‘Hocus Pocus’ was a Top 5 Billboard Mainstream Rock hit in 1993. In 1994 his soundtrack to Endless Summer II single-handedly made surf music cool again in the eyes of players raised on shred. His Ho Ho Hoey series of Christmas albums have rocked up the holidays for nearly two decades, and he’s even found the time to record and tour with Lita Ford.

But one thing Hoey had never done was record a blues album. That all changed with Deja Blues. Funded via kickstarter and recorded in a burst of creativity in 2012, the album finds Hoey tapping into the blues lifeblood that beats in the heart of every rocker, but with his own unmistakable tone and touch.

Johnny A. has one of the most eloquent voices in modern music, and he doesn’t sing a note! Instead, he channels joy, love, humor, sadness – every aspect of the human experience – through his guitar. Although an instrumentalist, Johnny thinks like a singer as he plays, composes and improvises on guitar.

“I’m always interested in dynamics and tone far more than the amount of notes played,” Johnny explains. “What’s most important is that every song has a strong, clear melody; not how fast or flashy the solo is going to be. That’s a lesson I learned when I fell in love with The Beatles and other bands of the British Invasion, which is still my favorite era in music.”

Don’t miss an evening with two of the regions hottest blues-rock guitarists gracing the stage on the same night.

Tickets to the Gary Hoey and Johnny A. concert are $29, and $35 for premier seats. For more information on upcoming shows or to purchase tickets call the box office at 603-536-2551 or go online at FlyingMonkeyNH.com.
