Ruthann Gallagher, August 24, 2013

Ruthann Gallagher died on August 24, 2013, in Brandon, Florida. She was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1923. She was a descendent of the first Governor of New Hampshire, growing up in the home he built in 1783 in Andover.

She was a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, in 1945. She served on ski and basketball clubs, the Dean’s list, Bates Key, and “Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges.”

She began teaching in Littleton, New Hampshire, where she met her husband, Chuck. They were married in 1946. They moved to Madeira Beach, Florida at the end of 1950.

She began teaching after their son and daughter began school and taught for 40 years in many St. Petersburg area schools, including Junior College and Vo-Tech. She enjoyed hiking, swimming and traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Charles J. Gallagher; her son, Chuck Gallagher and his wife, Sharon; her daughter, Ann Ottinger and her husband, Terry; granddaughter, Jackie Peck and her husband, Mike; and her two great-grandsons, Austin and Brayden. The funeral service will be private.
