MV Senior Projects on display April 17

By Jane Slayton, AE/MS Principal

We are the champions! Huge congratulations to the Merrimack Valley Girls Basketball team! They are the state champions for the first time in MV history! We are especially proud of our Andover girls – Erin Frost and Haley Adams!

Spring is here, and eighth grade students are already scheduling their high school course work. The students will revisit MVHS in April. Discussions are now underway as to what extracurricular activities to participate in. The students understand the importance of being fully involved in their school community.

Congratulations Lexi Emeny and Jack Newton. Lexi is our 2013-14 AE/MS Spelling Champion, and Jack is our runner-up. Many grueling rounds of spelling were endured before we had a winner. All students in grades four through eight who participated should be proud of their effort.

Our school breakfast program is gaining in popularity. All students have the opportunity to get a “grab and go” breakfast every morning. The school day begins by walking and talking with friends in the gym for 15 minutes before the day officially starts. Then students grab a healthy breakfast to start the day. Green eggs and ham were a big hit for breakfast this week! Fresh fruit wraps also were a big hit.

Poetry Night

Students are reciting poetry throughout the building. It is amazing the challenging pieces that some students choose to learn. Classroom judging takes place in early April, and then finalists from grades one through eight will recite at Poetry Night on Thursday, April 10.

MVHS seniors have been invited back to AE/MS to share their senior projects with the middle school students on Thursday, April 17. The community is invited to join us for the 8:15 AM presentations.

Our middle school students find it helpful to learn about the senior project process and also learn more about high school expectations. As a school community, we really enjoy having the seniors return and visit with us before they take their next step after high school.

We have started the third trimester of the school year. We are still holding off setting graduation dates for kindergarten and eighth grade until we get beyond the threat of snow days. At this point, we have had five snow days and three delayed openings.

As I write this, we are just days away from our spring production, Honk! I am most impressed with the hours of work that students have put into the play beginning in October. It is a first rate production! I hope you had the opportunity to see it.
