Through the Reading Glasses, May 2014

By Janet Moore, Andover Library Trustee

As we say farewell to Marj Roy, an esteemed Library Trustee, we welcome Deb Brower to a three-year term on the Library Board. Remember, that’s actually “Libraries.”

During her inaugural meeting in March, Deb joined us in our re-imagining of the community room at William A. Bachelder Library (WABL) and discussing new initiatives, some of which included a library float in Andover’s Fourth of July parade, new signs at Andover Public Library, and summer movies at WABL. We have a lot to work on and lots of enthusiasm in Deb, whose encouraging and humorous nature is quite contagious.

We are still hoping to have an angel arrive on our doorstep soon, an angel who would like to organize a Friends group for the libraries. So many of our new projects could use a dedicated working group to help raise awareness and dollars in the community.

Starting up is easy; round up some friends, volunteers, people who love libraries, and do something good for the town. An infusion of $500 is necessary to register us as an official group with the state, so spread the word.

Spring means gardening everywhere, vegetables and flowers. Check out this title that I recently found on Amazon: Mister Owita’s Guide to Gardening: How I Learned the Unexpected Joy of a Green Thumb and an Open Heart. Sounds like fun to me.
