Dear AEMS Family,

Rain, rain go away – Enough already – Although it has given me the opportunity to notice that at AEMS umbrellas are back in style! Many younger students have been sporting some pretty snazzy umbrellas this spring! The best part is they even know how to close them before coming into the building. Hopefully this is the last day for April showers and umbrellas!

Pump up those tires, dust off those helmets, and get ready to ride for BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY. Join the fun and festivities as everyone rides in to school on Wednesday, May 7th. Last year it was lots of fun! We are encouraging parents to bike with their children on the Rail Trail. Upon arrival the cyclists will enjoy fresh fruit, music, and water in the gym. Please consider joining the fun! Several staff members are already planning to bike in. If Ernie the Eagle finds a helmet to fit he will join us on the trail. Otherwise, he’ll be ready to greet you at the school. Mr. Hubbard, Mrs. Frost, and Mrs. Parenteau will be at the East Andover Fire Station at 6:45 to gather a group to ride in together. Ms. Lane, Ms. Young and I will meet riders at Potter Place Train Station at 7:00. Another access point for the Rail Trail is on Plains Road. Younger cyclists could get there at 7:00 and join the group coming from East Andover. Plains Road is a great alternative for students who are riding from that direction of town but need a shorter distance. We are also looking for volunteers to safely cross cyclists at the Plains Road and Franklin Highway crossing and also at the end of Switch Road. Call me if you can help. I will provide you with a neon vest. The rain date will be the following Wednesday.

Progress Reports will go home with students on May 9th.

AEMS appreciates, values, admires, treasures, and respects all of our staff members. Next week is Staff Appreciation Week and a simple note or thank you to a staff member can mean so much. Thank You!

SHARE Day is almost here – May 16th! 3rd-8th grade SHARE Day forms have been returned and workshops have been planned and filled. Those who will need permission for an off campus activity will receive additional paperwork before SHARE Day. 1st and 2nd grade SHARE Day plans are also underway.

Grades 4 and 8 will begin Science NECAP testing this month. The total science testing time is three class periods. Grades 2-8 will begin NWEA assessments next week. NWEA tests for reading, math, and language usage also take a total of three class periods.

Through the month of May poppies will be available at AEMS by making a donation. Poppies are never sold but given in exchange for a contribution. The poppies have been assembled by disabled veterans. Money will be turned in to the Franklin VFW and is used to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans. The poppy also reminds our community of the past sacrifices and continuing needs of our veterans.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call.

Happy May Day!
