Twelve students and two instructors from Proctor Academy in Andover assisted the Wilmot Community Association (WCA) on May 3 with spring landscape clean-up at the association’s two properties in Wilmot.

At Timothy Patten Park on Shindagan Road, the students raked the lawn and beach, moved picnic tables, and floated and secured a raft. Workers at the park were Proctor team leader Buz Morison, Sam Fisher, James Roan, Devin Herlitz, Matt Braley, and Max Christian. “The students were wonderful to work with,” said Rachel Seamans, WCA board member who coordinated the cleanup at the beach.

At the WCA’s Red Barn on Village Road, students edged around shrubs, spread mulch, and picked up trash that a local black bear had spread in the woods behind the building.

Workers at the WCA’s Red Barn were Proctor team leader Casey McCormick, Kyle Heller, Rowan Moynihan, Nick Sawaya, Cole Bickford, Chace Lewis, and Alex Van Raatle. “The boys worked really hard,” said Kimberly Slover, WCA board member who coordinated the cleanup at the Red Barn. “By the end of the morning they had accomplished a great deal, and the landscaping looked great!”

This is the second consecutive year that students from Proctor Academy have helped the WCA with spring cleanup.

“It’s amazing the amount of work the teams of students did for the WCA,” said Ann Davis, president of the WCA, a community-based not-for-profit organization that has been bringing neighbors together in Wilmot for more than 50 years. “Volunteers are key to the WCA’s success. We truly appreciate the nearly 30 hours of volunteer time the students and their advisors contributed to the WCA.”
