EAVP Hosts Yard Sale for Children’s Clothes, Toys

Saturday, June 7, from 8 AM to 2 PM

By Elizabeth Janvrin, EAVP Director

The changing of seasons brings the arrival and birth of animals, along with growth of flowers, plants, and trees. Spring is upon us at East Andover Village Preschool and has brought a breath of fresh air into our classroom activities and discussions.

In April, we observed and welcomed six ducks to our EAVP family. After nurturing and loving them for two weeks, we brought them to their forever home in Sutton. They will be coming back to visit us soon, and everyone has been speculating about how big they have gotten and what they will look like when we see them again.

At the end of the month we welcomed four caterpillars into our classroom. This offered us yet another opportunity to practice our observation skills, watching each day as they eat their food, become larger, and then move into their chrysalis. By the time you read this, we will have hatched up to four Painted Lady butterflies.

During classroom activities we sang, acted out, and learned about the life cycle and the parts of caterpillars and butterflies. We also used this time to discuss symmetry as seen on butterflies and experienced how a chrysalis might feel.

Our science area is truly alive now, as there have also been tadpoles added to our classroom environment. Each day we continue to watch and observe them as they get bigger. We have taken the time to hypothesize about how big they will grow, when their legs will start to appear, and what kind of frogs they will be.

As they go through their metamorphism we will explore their life cycle and observe the changes made to their bodies. There have already been discussions about other animals found in ponds and streams, which we foresee will continue as the year finishes out.

Graduation

June is our last month together before our oldest group gets ready for graduation and their big transition to kindergarten. Graduation is set for Tuesday, June 17, at the Andover Congregational Church at 6 PM and will be a great evening of celebration.

Our last day of our preschool school year is Friday, June 20, and our Summer Camp program begins on Monday, June 23. If you are looking for some summer fun, please contact us at EAVP@nulltds.net or 735-5105. This summer we will be blasting off into outer space, exploring the depths of the ocean for Shark Week, and becoming secret agents.

With the end of our school year, the EAVP Advisory Board is seeking some new board members. We are looking for a Co-Chair, Mentor and Parent Representatives. If you would like more information, please contact the school at EAVP@nulltds.net.

We are also hosting a Yard Sale for children’s clothing and toys on Saturday, June 7, from 8 AM to 2 PM. Please stop by the EAVP parking lot to check out all of the wonderful items that have been donated.
