On May 21, The Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust closed on its 129th protected property. Judith and Thomas Brewer placed a conservation easement on 159.2 acres of their 200-acre property in Danbury. This property includes two-thirds of Severence Hill in Danbury, with over half a mile of shore frontage on Waukeena Lake. There is a public boat launch on the opposite shore that offers the opportunity to fish or paddle on the lake and see a wide view of the entire conservation easement.

The property protects important wildlife habitat for the loons on Waukeena Lake and abundant moose. This acreage adds to the more than 1,000 acres of other conserved land nearby.

With the addition of this property, the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust now protects 129 properties encompassing 10,685 acres in its 12-town region. Funding support for the survey of this 159.2-acre easement came from the Quabbin to Cardigan Partnership. Once again, Ausbon Sargent is thankful for the opportunity to continue with its mission to help “preserve the rural character of the Mt. Kearsarge/Lake Sunapee region.”
