First Friday Focuses on Contemporary Theater

Friday, September 5, in New London

Press release

The community is invited to the Lake Sunapee Region’s Center for the Arts’ (CFA) First Friday program on September 5 from 5 to 7 PM at Whipple Hall in downtown New London. Shaker Bridge Theatre of Enfield will be the evening’s focus and entertainment. All Center for the Arts events are free and open to the public.

The Shaker Bridge Theatre is in its eighth season and is dedicated to discovering and creating provocative contemporary theater. Bill Coons is the founder and producing artistic director of Shaker Bridge Theatre, and he is uniquely qualified for the task. He brings energy and innovation to the Upper Valley.

Shaker Bridge will present five productions in the 2014-15 season. The productions are not mainstream but have risen from “Off-Broadway” and “London’s Fringe.” The productions are Rapture, Blister, Burn by Gina Gionfriddo; Don’t Talk to the Actors by Tom Dudzick; Venus in Fur by David Ives; How the World Began by Catherine Trieschmann; and Other Desert Cities by Jon Robin Baitz.

Bill Coons will introduce the evening’s program and the performing artists. The presentation will not only delight the audience but will be thought provoking. Be prepared for something different, meaningful, and altogether entertaining!

Bill has named this presentation Pay Close Attention To The Man Behind The Curtain! He plans to demonstrate with actors how a scene is created and put together. This will be an active demonstration of the creative process. Hopefully, the audience will see outstanding directing and, of course, want to visit the Shaker Bridge Theatre.

Following the performance will be a question/answer period and social hour to meet Bill Coons and the performing cast.

All First Friday events are free and open to the public. On the first Friday of each month, the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts hosts a series of free arts programs for the enjoyment of the community. These events include gallery openings and receptions, classical and folk music nights, literary and poetry nights, as well as theater nights. Working with their business partners in the community, CFA continues to showcase local and regional talent in the Lake Sunapee area for the benefit of the artists, performers, residents, and visitors to our beautiful region.
