Candidate for US Senate: Jeanne Shaheen

Town News - News - Candidate - US Senate - ShaheenIn the US Senate, I am working to make a real difference for people throughout New Hampshire. To create jobs, I worked to secure funding for widening I-93 and for the new Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth. I stood up to members of my own party to protect the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and broke through years of partisan gridlock to open the Berlin prison.

I am proud to have promoted the Small Business Innovation Research program, which gives funding to small businesses so they can invest in research and development, and the State Trade and Export Promotion program, which allows New Hampshire businesses to compete globally by boosting exports.

As a former high school teacher, I believe that every child deserves access to an affordable, quality education. As Governor, I expanded public kindergarten, and in the Senate, introduced new legislation to allow students to refinance their college loans at lower rates.

Our nation owes a deep debt to all service men and women who have answered the call of duty. Working with Republicans, I was able to include a provision in the new bipartisan veterans reform bill that ensures veterans in our state can seek care outside of the VA and get care close to home for the first time.

I am also fighting to increase the minimum wage and guarantee equal pay for equal work. I care deeply about New Hampshire and will never stop working for the people of our state. You can find more information at JeanneShaheen.org.
