Recreation Committee Minutes, November 12, 2014

Condensed from approved minutes

Committee members present: Ellie George, Howard George, Tom Frantz, Alan Hanscom, Jen Hauser, Heidi Murphy, Sue Norris, Tim Norris, Brian Reynolds, and Kurt Weber.

Programs

Soccer: The soccer program needs to be able to pay all its referees and not count on people contributing their time.

Expenses for the soccer program this year were $585. The budget needs to be $750 next year.

Heidi Murphy would like to push the soccer signup back until at least August 1. This earlier sign up date would allow teams to be properly formalized. Late applicants would require an additional coach. We need to have a provision for new kids.

Skiing: 108 pinnies were purchased from Kelly Sports for $2.50 each.

The cost of Bus Transportation was not yet available, but a small increase is anticipated. Bus use depends on numbers. The final tally will not be available until December 19.

The ski program is in the process of formulating a lost child policy. Other ski programs will be contacted for their policies.

Ragged Mountain is offering kids bargain skiing on five Sundays from 11 AM to 4 PM for $50. Each child must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Ice Rink

The ice rink tarp and boards should be fully installed in a week or so. Alan Hanscom researched appropriate snowblowers for the hockey rink. The Recreation Committee authorized a Sears Craftsman Model 88396, a 30-inch model, for $1,159 but found that the next day the price had risen to $1,259. Kurt Weber was authorized to contact Sears to verify pricing availability and to lock in a price.

Recreation Building Expenses

Electrical wiring for the building, with armored cable, not to exceed $5,000. Plumbing for the building not to exceed $3,500.

Baseball Field

We may need to have a “major league” skin diamond. We did not have a team that needed that size infield last year. The Recreation Committee is responsible for the fields and will be responsible for any changes.
